Clay HS National Honor Society Inducts Seven New Members, 2025

Clay High School held its National Honor Society Induction on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in the high school cafeteria.  Seven new students were inducted into Clay’s National Honor Society.

The new members inducted were Sophia Craft, daughter of  Josh and Christy Craft of Rubyville; Dawson James, son of Courtony Boyer and Shannon and Kyle James of Portsmouth; Ryan McCullough, son of Jerry and Lesley McCullough of Friendship; Abigail Miller, daughter of  Curtis and Heidi Miller of Portsmouth; Billy Miller, son of Shadd and Jessica Miller of Eden Park; Trinity Plew, daughter of Jessica Tracey of Rosemount; and Jason Wang, son of Sam Wang and Wendy Guo of Portsmouth. These seven new members joined Sarah Cassidy, Laney Fife, Isaiah George, Mackenzie Hicks, Macyn Johnson, and Tristan Large as current Clay NHS members.

The guest speaker for the ceremony was Mariah (Tackett) Fannin.  Mrs. Fannin is a 2013 graduate of Clay HS.  She currently teaches social studies at West Clermont HS.  Members of the chapter are selected based on the criteria of character, leadership, scholarship, and service; and members must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and meet the other chapter requirements to be considered.  Members are involved in many activities and service projects throughout the year.  The co-advisers of the Clay National Honor Society are Mrs. Lisa Phillips and Mr. Mark Rose.



Clay HS National Honor Society Tapping Ceremony 2024

The Clay HS National Honor Society held its annual "tapping" ceremony on Thursday, December 12, 2024.  Seven new members were tapped to become official Clay National Honor Society members.  

The theme of this year's tapping was "Christmas."  The current NHS members tapped the seven new members wearing their Santa hats during the day while giving each new member several gifts, including reindeer ears.  They played various selected holiday music to signal the tapping of a new member.

Current members include Sarah Cassidy, Alayna Fife, Isaiah George, Mackenzie Hicks, Macyn Johnson, and Tristan Large.  The seven new members include Sophia Craft, Dawson James, Ryan McCullough, Abigail Miller, Billy Miller, Trinity Plew, and Jason Wang.

Mrs. Phillips and Mr. Rose are the Clay High School National Honor Society advisors.  The official NHS induction ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, January 9, 2025.

Clay High School held its National Honor Society Induction on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, in the high school cafetorium.  Five new students were inducted into Clay’s National Honor Society.  

The new members inducted were Sarah Cassidy, daughter of James and Melissa of Portsmouth; Alayna Fife, daughter of Brian Fife and Sarah and Tony Cottrill of Portsmouth; Mackenzie Hicks, daughter of Lauren and Josh Vastine of Rosemount and Cory and Cassie Hicks of South Portsmouth; Macyn Johnson, daughter of Randy and Megan Johnson of Portsmouth; and Tristan Large, son of Cal and Kindra Large of Rubyville. These five new members joined Mallory Cassidy, Abby Clausing, Delaney James, Megan King, and Jaira Roberts as current Clay NHS members.

The guest speaker for the ceremony was Mrs. Stacey Bailey.  Members of the chapter are selected based on the criteria of character, leadership, scholarship, and service; and members must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and meet the other chapter requirements to be considered.  Members are involved in many activities and service projects throughout the year.  The Clay National Honor Society co-advisers are Mrs. Lisa Phillips and Mr. Mark Rose.

The current NHS members tapped the five new members during the day wearing Mickey Mouse costumes while giving each new member several gifts, including "Mickey ears."  They played music from the cartoon to signal the tapping of a new member.

Current members include Mallory Cassidy, Abby Clausing, Delaney James, Megan King, & Jaira Roberts.

Five new members will be inducted. They are Sarah Cassidy, Alayna Fife, Mackenzie Hicks, Macyn Johnson, & Tristan Large. 

Mr. Rose and Mrs. Phillips are the Clay High School National Honor Society advisors.  The NHS induction ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

Clay High School held its National Honor Society Induction on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in the high school cafetorium.  Six new students were inducted into Clay’s National Honor Society.

The new members inducted were Lilyan Buckler, daughter of James and Julie Buckler of Lucasville; Mallory Cassidy, daughter of James and Melissa Cassidy of Portsmouth; Abby Clausing, daughter of April and Ryan Clausing of Portsmouth; Delaney James, daughter of Shannon and Kyle James of Portsmouth; Megan King, daughter of Brian and Kristin Anderson of Rosemount; and Jaira Roberts, daughter of Nicole Roberts of Portsmouth. These six new members joined Amadea Everman, Madison S. Jackson, Allyssa Maynard, Abigail Scott, Mallory Swords, and Adrienne Whitley as current Clay NHS members.

The guest speaker for the ceremony was Mrs. Keely (Craft) Woloschek, a 2011 Clay High School graduate. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown College and is currently the Deputy Fiscal Officer at the Scioto County Public Library.

Members of the chapter are selected based on the criteria of character, leadership, scholarship, and service; and members must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and meet the other chapter requirements to be considered.  Members are involved in many activities and service projects throughout the year.  The advisers for the Clay National Honor Society are Mrs. Lisa Phillips and Mr. Mark Rose.

The theme of this year's tapping was based on the movie Grease. The current NHS members tapped the six new members during the day wearing "Pink Lady" costumes while giving each new member several gifts, including a pink scarf and pink glasses They played music from the movie to signal the tapping of a new member.

Current members include Amadea Everman, Madison Jackson, Allyssa Maynard, Abigail Scott, Mallory Swords, & Adrienne Whitley.

Clay High School held its National Honor Society Induction on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, in the high school cafetorium.  Seven new students were inducted into Clay’s National Honor Society.

The new members inducted were Owen Adkins-Plumlee, son of Marvin and Amy Plumlee of Portsmouth; Amadea Everman, daughter of DJ and Heather Everman of Portsmouth; Madison S. Jackson, daughter of Jeffrey Jackson and Jennifer Colegrove of New Boston; Allyssa Maynard, daughter of Stephanie Maynard of Portsmouth and the late David Adkins of Franklin Furnace; Abigail Scott, daughter of John and Michelle Scott of Lucasville; Mallory Swords, daughter of Tracy and Zachary Swords of West Portsmouth; and Adrienne Whitley, daughter of Laura Whitley and the late Bryan Whitley of Rosemount.  These seven new members joined Gavin Cayton, Mitchell King, Preslee Lutz, Kyleigh Oliver, and Kailey Ware as current Clay NHS members.

The guest speaker for the ceremony was Mr. Michael Thacker, a 2006 Clay graduate. He is the Director of Government Contracts at the Portsmouth Flour-BWXT facility in Piketon. Members of the chapter are selected based on the criteria of character, leadership, scholarship, and service; and members must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and meet the other chapter requirements to be considered.  Members are involved in many activities and service projects throughout the year.  The advisers for the Clay National Honor Society are Mrs. Lisa Phillips and Mr. Mark Rose. 

Clay NHS Tapping Ceremony, 2021


The Clay High School National Honor Society held its annual "tapping" ceremony on Thursday, December 16, 2021.  The theme of this year's tapping was based on the popular movie Toy Story.  The current NHS members tapped the seven new members during the day, giving each new member gift items related to the movie to remember this special day.  They played music from the movie to signal the tapping of a new member.

Current members include Gavin Cayton, Mitchell King, Preslee Lutz, Kyleigh Oliver, and Kailey Ware

Clay NHS Inducts Nine New Members, 2021


Clay High School held its National Honor Society Induction on Thursday, March 25, 2021, in the high school cafetorium.  Nine new members were inducted into Clay’s National Honor Society.

The new members inducted were Gavin Cayton, son of Scott and Gretchen Cayton of McDermott; Jaden Jessee, son of Jimmy and Kandis Rayburn of Lucasville and Jack Clay of Minford; Mitchell King, son of Brian and Kristin Anderson of Rosemount; Mekenzie Loper, daughter of Tim and Candy Loper of Portsmouth; Preslee Lutz, daughter of Lisa and Terry Lutz of Minford; Shaley Munion, daughter of Troy Munion and Kelly Tackett of Portsmouth; Kyleigh Oliver, daughter of Eric and Debbie Oliver of Rosemount; Ian Skeenes, son of Sarah Beth Johnson of Rosemount and Justin and Brooke Skeenes of Wheelersburg; and Kailey Ware, daughter of Matt and Tracie Lewis of Rosemount. These nine new members joined Andrew Brown, Emily Clausing, Clay Cottle, Chasten Davis, and Jaymes Ethan Jones as current Clay NHS members.

Clay HS National Honor Society Induction 2020

Clay High School held its National Honor Society Induction on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, in the high school cafetorium.  Five new students were inducted into Clay’s National Honor Society.

The new members inducted were Andrew Brown, son of Erica and Jason Willis or Rosemount and Eric Brown of Hawaii; Emily Clausing, daughter of April and Ryan Clausing of Portsmouth; Clay Cottle, son of Marc and Jennifer Cottle of Portsmouth; Chasten Lesan Davis, daughter of Shane and Lesan Davis of Portsmouth; and Jaymes Ethan Jones, son of Jay and Linda Jones of Portsmouth. Jaelyn Warnock is the current NHS member. She is the daughter of Todd and Julie Warnock of Rosemount.

Members of the chapter are selected based on the criteria of character, leadership, scholarship, and service; and members must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be considered.  Members are involved in many activities and service projects throughout the year.  The adviser for the Clay National Honor Society is Mr. Mark Rose.
